Detroit Public Schools Community District’s (DPSCD) Equity Art Initiative

The DPSCD Equity Art Initiative is a school-based collective art initiative, situated within selected high schools in the DPS district. The program creates time and space for students to be in conversation and dialogue around social justice and equity issues and is an extension of our school-based equity and civic leadership groups. Through this extension, students have the opportunity to center art as a team and community-building vehicle as well as encourage student voice and expression. The culmination is a mural project that allows student voices to be visual and public, claiming visibility and space for student expression. The overarching theme of these murals is “Advancing Civility Through Justice.”
