Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom US: UN Practicum in Advocacy

The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF US Section) collaborates annually with its international counterparts to attend the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). Each year, WILPF US identifies a dedicated and qualified group of younger activists to represent WILPF US as delegates in our flagship initiative, the UN Practicum in Advocacy. This distinctive program empowers these younger activists to enhance their skills in peacemaking, focusing on civil discourse, advocacy, and consensus-building alongside fellow human rights activists from around the globe. The UN Practicum in Advocacy is scheduled during the inaugural week of the 68th CSW meetings, spanning from Monday, March 11th to Friday, March 15th, 2024.

Four young activists were selected this year to serve as WILPF US delegates. On the beginning day of the CSW meetings (March 11, 2024) – our four Practicum in Advocacy delegates as well the WILPF US Coordinator were pictured below.

Emily Davis is an Associate Professor of English, Women, and Gender Studies at the University of Delaware; Eman Al Drous is a PhD student in English and Refugee Studies at the University of Delaware, Shilpa Pandey is UN Practicum Coordinator for WILPF US; Cecile Van Eijck is currently a mediator in D.C., but she is preparing to enroll in a Master’s program in International Relations and Peace & Conflict Studies; and Cathy Knowles is in a Master’s program in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

WILPF’s UN Practicum in Advocacy effectively cultivates a new generation of empathetic and communicative leaders who will learn the importance of civil conversations with other diverse CSW members to address ongoing problems of gender inequality.

For more information, contact the Practicum Coordinator, Shilpa Pandey at UN-Practicum-mail@wilpfus.org.

I’d like to  include the photo and the link to WILPFUS, if possible.

We offered a second grant this year, and I need to verify the description of the project with the organization, so I will send a second grant to post on the website once I have that done.
